- Willian is expected to sign a new contract at Chelsea
- The Brazilian is likely to get a longer deal than Chelsea hand most players in their 30s
- Willian joined the Premier League side from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013
Chelsea star Willian is to be handed a new deal by the Premier League side.
According to a UK Sun report, Chelsea are likely to do away with its strict one-year extension policy for older players because of Willian’s commitment and performances on the pitch.
The Selecao star has less than 24 months on his present deal which is worth around £120,000-a-week.
Willian turned 30 over a week ago and it is a tradition for the West London club to only offer an extra 12 months once a squad member passes the landmark age.
However, Willian’s loyalty and overall contributions for the Blues has been noted by the club’s eggheads.
Already a two-year contract extension and a huge pay rise is being proposed for the hardworking midfielder who has been at Stamford Bridge for five seasons since joining from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013.
Willian was linked with a switch away from the Blues in the summer to Barcelona and Manchester United as his relationship with former boss Antonio Conte went from bad to worst.
Last weekend, he revealed he would have been forced to move elsewhere had the Italian not been sacked.
After the FA Cup Final win in May, the Brazilian plastered over an image of Conte in a celebration picture of the whole squad taken at Wembley.
However, new club manager Maurizio Sarri seems to trust the midfielder as he handed him a start in the 3-0 win at Huddersfield last weekend.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported that Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is reportedly keen to offload midfielder Danny Drinkwater out of the Premier League.
According to a UK Sun report citing sources at The Daily Star, Blues Italian manager Sarri has “has signalled he is happy for the England international to leave before the European transfer window closes at the end of the month.”
At the moment Chelsea’s midfielders include Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Cesc Fabregas, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek alongside the 28-year-old Drinkwater.
