The leader of the out-phased reformed All Progressives Congress, Kawu Baraje, on Thursday, August 16, defected from the APC to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
The Punch reports that Baraje, during a media conference in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, said he will soon make a “formal and celebrational” defection in his ward, Baboko in Ilorin.
He declared that he belongs to the party where his leader, the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, defected to.
Baraje commended the PDP where he had been the secretary and acting chairman before he defected to APC.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that a former lawmaker and 2015 Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Enugu state, a senator Ayogu Eze, defected to the APC.
Before moving to the APC, Eze had engaged in intensive consultations with political associates and stakeholders in Enugu and the ruling party.
A grand reception is being planned to officially receive the two-time senator, who has already registered as an APC member in his ward.
APC members in the state are reportedly overjoyed over the development, as they view Eze as a strong force who will help them dislodge the PDP from power in the state come 2019.
In a related development, the senator representing Ebonyi south senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sonni Ogbuoji, and an ex-minister of state for power and steel, Goddy Ogbaga and 13 others on Saturday, August 4, defected from the PDP to the APC.
The defectors announced their defection during a rally organised by the state chapter of the APC in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari and the party’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
