The Nigeria U-20 women's team have crashed out of the ongoing World cup in France following a 2-1 loss to Spain.

The Nigerian side were knocked out of the quarter finals by the current European Champions as two first half goals were enough to put them through into the semis.

Spain controlled the game in the early exchanges of the match as they settled quickly into the match.

On the other hand, the Falconets struggled to get themselves into the match as they played more on the defensive.

And they paid dearly for it as the Spanish side went ahead in the 13th minute after captain of the team Antana Bonmati took a shot from outside the box to make the score 1-0.

Nigeria were lucky not to have gone two-goals behind as a free-kick taken by Bonamati seemed to have crossed the line after hitting the crossbar but was not given.

In the 40th minute goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made a save with her left-foot at point-blank range to keep Nigeria in the match.

But just before half-time, Pedro Lopez's girls made it 2-0 from a set-piece as Patricia Guijarro beat the offside trap to slam home the second.

The first half ended as the Falconets made no real threat on goal and Spain went into the break with the heads high with a two-goal lead.

Christopher Musa's side came back stronger in the second half and quickly got into the thick of things in the 46th.

An in-sw.inger was launched into the box and the ball fell kindly for a Nigerian player but her effort was not good enough to beat the Spanish goalkeeper.

Then in the 57th minute, Peace Efih brought the Falconets back into the match scoring into an empty net to make it 2-1.

Efih started and finished the move after making a beautiful run from the middle as she found Rasheedat Ajibade whose initial shot was saved by Catalina Coll before the Nigerian attacker pounced on the rebound.

The Nigerian side threw all they can but the Spanish held on to claim victory and secure their passage into the semi finals.
