Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state on Wednesday, August 15, said that he is under pressure to run for president in 2019.
Daily Trust reports that he stated this while addressing different associations of students and youths as well as resident communities who paid him a solidarity visit.
Legit.ng gathered that he said has been receiving advice and encouragement from his leaders, peoples across the country as well as people from abroad to contest for presidency.
He said: "I have been receiving advice and encouragement from our leaders, peoples across the country and even from abroad to contest for presidency and this pressure is being mounting."
Tambuwal further explained: "It Is not my making but the quantum of pressure from every where because of leadership gap in the country."
He said he would make his position public on the matter "in days to come."
Responding, the leader of the groups, Comrade Bashir Gorau, pledged their support to the presidential ambition of Governor Tambuwal.
"We are tired of waiting, we want you to declare your position now," he said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Nigeria's former vice president Atiku Abubakar and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state met behind closed doors in Abuja on Sunday night, August 12.
It was gathered that both men met at the Asokoro Abuja residence of the former vice president in what sources close to Atiku said was a courtesy visit.
Paul Ibe, the media adviser to the former vice president, confirmed that Tambuwal was at Atiku’s residence.
However, Tambuwal was said to have had a separate meeting with the director-general of Atiku Presidential Campaign Organization, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
Atiku is in the middle of his consultation towards securing the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s election, while Tambuwal, who has just defected to the opposition party, is also thought to be eyeing the ticket.
