The Gan Allah Fulani Development Association, a Fulani socio-cultural group, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to give priority to infrastructural development in the North.
The call was made by the group’s chairman, Saleh A. Bayari, during his conferment with the Garkuwan Matasan Arewa title by the Northern Students Assembly of Nigeria (NSAN), Guardian reports.
Legit.ng gathers that Bayari said the infrastructure in the North urgently needs the attention of the president; describing it as being in a state of coma.
He expressed concern that Buhari had never been charged by northerners to construct roads, build hospitals or sink boreholes for them; while Niger Deltans and people from other places have mounted pressure on the federal government, for the development of their regions.
He even pointed out that stakeholders in the Niger Delta have often threatened to stop oil exploration if their region was not developed; while northerners have never threatened to stop supplying maize, tomatoes or cattle to the south, if their region is not developed.
He said there was a huge deficit in the North, and urged Buhari to deliver qualitative dividends to the region.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that in line with a request allegedly made by President Muhammadu Buhari, the World Bank disclosed that it was concentrating its efforts on the northern part of Nigeria.
The disclosure was made by Jim Yong Kim, president of the World Bank Group, who stated that it had been quite difficult for the bank to carry out its duties as there was so much turbulence in the North.
