French League giants Marseille weighing up a summer move for Arsenal's Elneny

French League giants Olympique Marseille are reportedly planning to sign Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny before the end of this month.

The Egypt international is currently facing competition at the Emirates Stadium following the arrival of Lucas Torreira and Mateo Guendouzi during the summer transfer window.

He was an unused substitute in the Gunners Premier League opening day defeat to champions Manchester City on Sunday as Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Guendouzi were paired in the middle with Torreira coming on as a sub.

Though, he has a running contract with the north London club until the summer of 2022, he might be forced out early if he gets limited playing time.

Elneny joined Arsenal from Barsel in 2016 and has made 38 goalless appearances for the club since he joined them.

However, Marseille are hoping they can take advantage of his non-playing status to lure him out of the club before the summre transfer window closes later this month.

Unai Emery on arrival to the Emirates earlier this summer signed Torreira from Sampdoria in a £27 million deal.

While Guendouzi came in from Ligue 2 side FC Lorient in a four year deal valued around £7 million.

Goalkeeper Bernd Leno also joined the Gunners from German side Bayer Leverkusen for a deal worth £27 million, while Sokratis cost them a £15 million.

Switzerland defender Stephan Lichtsteiner was signed as a free agent from Juventus on a year deal.

Elneny signed a new four-year contract in March, a move that has helped protect his value as his previous deal was due to run out in 2020. previously reported that Arsenal midfielder Mohammed Elneny signed a new long term deal to remain at the Emirates.

The Egyptian joined the London club from Switzerland club Basel in 2016 and have made 65 appearances ever since.

He began his senior career back home in his native country with El Mokawloon in the Egyptian Premier League.
