35-year-old bricklayer in trouble after he broke into Oyo government house, stole police property

- The bricklayer, Sunday Ajayi was given a six-month jail term

- The court heard that Ajayi, 35, scaled the fence into the government house and stole police property

- Facing the chief magistrate, Ajayi pleaded guilty

Sunday Ajayi, a 35-year-old bricklayer in Oyo, has been jailed for six months by a magistrates’ court in Ibadan for breaking into the state government house and stealing property belonging to the police.

Ajayi reportedly carried out the act at the Agodi area of Ibadan and stole the property worth N535,000 from members of the police bomb squad stationed on the premises.

The Punch reports that the police prosecutor, Sunday Ogunremi, told the court that the Ajayi scaled the fence and went to the policemen’s apartment where he stole the valuables on July 31, 2018.

A part of the charge read: “That you, Sunday Ajayi, on July 29, 2017, around 12.30pm at the government house, GRA Ibadan, in the Ibadan magisterial district, did steal one wristwatch, four shirts, two trousers and EOD binoculars, property of anti-bomb section of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), valued at N535,000, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under sections 411 and 390 (9) of the criminal code, cap 38, vol.II, law of Oyo state of Nigeria, 2000.”

The report said the convict pleaded guilty to the charges and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

The chief magistrate, Taiwo Olaniran, then sentenced him to six months imprisonment without an option of fine. earlier reported that the police command in Enugu state arrested two suspected armed robbers and also cult members in Oji River axis of the state.

The command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement in Enugu on Friday, August 3, that the two suspects were arrested on July 30.
