Saraki and Ekweremadu are not above arrest - APC tells PDP

- The ruling All Progressives Congress says it is not planning to arrest the Senate president Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu

- The APC says claims by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party is untrue

- The party, however, says both men are not above arrest if they are found to have run foul of the law at anytime

The All Progressives Congress has denied claims by the Peoples Democratic Party that it was planning to arrest Senate president, Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, just as it said both principal officers are not above the law.

Vanguard reports that the opposition party said the planned arrest of the Senate principal officers was a ploy to further weaken the opposition.

Legit.ng gathers that the party stated that Saraki and Ekweremadu were not above arrest should they be found to have run foul of the law at any time.

The acting spokesman for APC, Yekini Nabena, said: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in its latest round of bogus claims has alleged that the federal government plans to arrest the Senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu”

Nabena, who said President Muhammadu Buhari administration has repeatedly demonstrated its strict adherence to the rule of law, described the alleged plan to arrest and harass the two senators as pure hogwash

He said: “Clear conscience fears no accusation. Why are PDP leaders afraid of arrest if their conscience is clear? All law-abiding citizens or resident of the country have nothing to fear about arrest. However, nobody no matter how highly placed will escape the full wrath of the law if he or she runs fowl of our laws.

“If the Senate president and the tree-climbing senator are facing criminal charges in our law courts and his deputy has explanations to make to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for acquisition of numerous properties in Nigeria and abroad through questionable sources, the President Buhari-led APC administration has nothing to do with them. The laws of the country are only being applied and they should answer for their acts of infamy."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleged that the pressure by the presidency for the reconvening of the Senate was out of a sinister motive to arrest and impeach Senate president, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

The party insisted that the call to reopen Senate had nothing to do with any emergency in the approval of the budget of the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2019 elections as claimed.
