Meanwhile, a report by THISDAY indicated that associates of President Buhari were worried that the escalating crisis in southeast APC might affect the president's chances in the region in the 2019 presidential election.
According to the report, the group, in a strategic paper recently prepared for the president, said unless some ‘’critical and influential’’ aggrieved members of the party in the zone were reconciled with the party, it would be ‘’extremely, if not impossible,’’ for APC to make any meaningful in-road to the zone in the coming general election.
The group made reference to Governor Okorocha-led group, with its own factions across the zone, especially in Imo state, accusing them of side-lining a group being led by Senator Ifeanyi Godwin Ararume, Okorocha's deputy and Senator Osita Izuanso.
