- Messi becomes Barcelona most decorated player following Super Cup win
- Barcelona defeated Sevilla by 2-1 as Messi lifted his first trophy as captain
- The 31-year-old has now won 33 trophies in total for the Catalan giants
Barcelona star Lionel Messi became the most-decorated player in the club's history after bagging trophy No33 in their 2-1 win over Sevilla.
The current La Liga champions beat Sevilla to clinch the Spanish Super Cup thanks to a stunning late strike from Ousmane Dembele.
It was the first time the 31-year-old will lift the trophy as a captain after he took over the role from Andres Iniesta this summer.
Iniesta left the Nou Camp after a 22-year love-affair with the club to join Japanese side Vissel Kobe.
And it was the 34-year-old Messi overtook to become the most-decorated Barcelona star of all time.
Both Messi and Iniesta were tied on 32 trophies apiece after glittering careers at the club before going into the Super Cup clash in Morocco.
However Messi added to his already ridiculous haul in the 2-1 victory - as Gerard Pique scored the equalizer before Dembele got the winner.
In total, Messi has won nine La Liga crowns, four Champions League, three Club World Cups, six Copa del Rey crowns, eight Spanish Super Cups and three Uefa Super Cups.
And the Argentine captain has never gone an entire season without getting his hands on a trophy.
And he will be hoping to add to his incredible tally this season as Barcelona once again compete for three trophies.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that La Liga champions Barcelona came from one goal down to beat Sevilla 2-1 and win their 13th Super Cup title at Stade de Tanger in Morocco on Sunday.
Spain midfielder Pablo Sarabia opened scoring for Los Rojiblancos in the 9th minute but the referee needed to consult the Video Referees Assistant before allowing the goal to stand.
