- The former Real Madrid handler wanted Atletico's Diego Godin on the last day but couldn't have him

- Shearer believes he has to put that behind him and focus on winning games for his club following a disappointing outing last term

England legend Alan Shearer has told Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho to focus on winning matches and stop his lamentations.

The Red Devils got their 2018-19 campaign off to a good start following their 2-1 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford of Friday night.

With Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw scoring the two goals that earned their side maximum points in their Premier League opening fixture.

The Mirror reports that all is not well at the club since Mourinho was unable to land any of his defensive options on the last day of the transfer window in England.

While Anthony Martial's issue seem to be causing a divide between the manager and Ed Woodward as the former Chelsea handler feels he has no use for the Frenchman.

Meanwhile, Pogba who recently helped France to win their second World Cup title in Russia hinted at some disaffection after the game on Friday night.

He said: "There are things I cannot say otherwise I will get fined," after being asked about his future and his relationship with Mourinho.

Having signed Fred, Diego Dalot and Lee Grant added in the summer, Shearer says Mourinho must put his displeasure with the club’s summer business to one side if United are to land silverware this term.

"When you look at the United squad, it is very, very talented," said Shearer, writing in The Sun.

"But they finished 19 points behind Manchester City last season, and didn’t win a trophy after picking up two the season before.

"It is imperative that they get back to winning silverware. United doesn’t seem a happy ship - and that’s coming from the manager.

"In every interview Mourinho is complaining and frowning and looking to scowl at everybody.

"He can’t change the squad now. He has to work with the players he has got and that IS a talented group of players.

"The moaning must stop now and he has to get his head round winning football matches."

United head to Brighton on Sunday, taking on Chris Hughton's Seagulls in their second league game of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Man United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed why he left Anthony Martial on the bench in his side's 2-1 win over Leicester City.

He claims he “needed six changes not three” in his side's season opener, with Anthony Martial seeing no game as other options had to take priority.

The 22-year-old attacker is among those to have been available for the Red Devils throughout the summer having missed the World Cup.
