Real Madrid edge close to landing former Barcelona star Alcantara this summer

- Los Blancos are planning to land Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara

- The Spanish League giants want him as replacement for Mateo Kovacic who joined Chelsea on loan

- Alcantara played more from the bench last term under former boss Jupp Heynckes

Champions League current holders Real Madrid are reportedly edging closer to landing Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara this summer.

The 27-year-old midfielder joined the German champions in the summer of 2013 in a deal valued around €25 million.

His move to the Bundesliga outfit was motivated by the arrival of Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal as he fell down the pecking order on the manager's list.

However, last season he was relegated to the bench by Jupp Heychens at the Allianz Arena as he started just 12 league matches.

According to Spanish paper Sport, Madrid have agreed terms with the Spain international and fee with Bayern just has to be agreed.

The Galacticos are open to signing a new midfielder after allowing Mateo Kovacic Chelsea on a season long loan deal.

And Los Blancos new manager Julen Lopetegui is said to be an admirer of Alcantara from their times working together with Spain.

A fee somewhere between £35-45million is expected to be enough to get the deal done, with Bayern happy to play ball.

The German champions batted away bids for James Rodriguez and Robert Lewandowski this summer but they are happy to part with Alcantara. previously reported that Manchester United’s Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho is planned to sign Bayern Munich’s duo of Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara this summer.

SunSport citing the Independent claim the Portuguese manager is eager to strengthen his attack and midfield this summer and is considering bringing the duo to Manchester United this summer.

Already, the former Chelsea manager rates Polish forward Lewandowski highly, although the Red Devils would face a tough warfare to sign the experienced goals poacher.
