Senator Walid Jibril, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has claimed that the party was happy to 'donate' Godswill Akpabio to the All Progressive Congress.
Senator Walid said it was within Akpabio's right to decamp to another party. He also added that there are competent hands in the party to take over from him, Vanguard reports.
Going further, he praised the leadership qualities of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo who summarily dismissed the director general of the DSS for the siege on the National Assembly..
“The recent attempt to tamper with the legitimate function of the National Assembly by selfish individuals who attempted to block the Assembly should be condemned and appropriate action taken against the intruders.
“In this respect, the Acting President Osinbajo should be praised for taking a decision to do away with the DSS boss, promising that the situation will be further investigated.
Going further, he also the purported resignation of our minority leader, Godwill Akpabio is also an act of Democracy.
“Therefore, considering the recent action taken by Acting President Osinbajo, the PDP is happy to donate Senator Godwill Akpabio to APC through him with great pleasure, as we have many PDP Senators to do that job which has been upgraded to majority leader.
“On behalf of the BOT we wish Akpabio bye-bye and safe journey, advising him to learn from history especially from those that left us and are now returning in droves,” he said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that former Senate minority leader who just defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress Congress (APC), Godswill Akpabio, said he was not interested in being Senate president now.
Akpabio said contrary to speculations that he is gunning for the seat of the number three man in Nigeria currently occupied by Bukola Saraki, said occupying the position is not in his mind now.
