The eighth body out of nine drowned corps members has been recovered on Wednesday, August 8 from the River Mayo-Selbe in Gashaka local government area of Taraba state where the unfortunate incident happened on Saturday, August 4.
This was disclosed by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state, which stated on Thursday, August 9 that it was working on the recovery of the remaining drowned corps member still missing before releasing details of all the nine corps members involved in the unfortunate incident.
Punch reports that the spokesperson for NYSC in the state, Odeh Innuma, said the search for the remaining one whose name he simply gave as Godiya from Kaduna state, was still on.
Legit.ng notes that the spokesperson said: “We have all the details of the nine corps members involved in that unfortunate picnic tragedy, but it is not in our power to release the information to the media now.
“At appropriate time, the director general of NYSC, Brigadier General Suleiman Kazaure, will release detailed information about the corps members and even publish same in national newspapers.
“Just yesterday, the DG sent someone to Gashaka where the incident happened and the person has since returned to Abuja. So, we are all waiting to hear from the DG on the next line of action."
All the eight bodies recovered had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo, the state capital.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that tragedy struck in Taraba state on Saturday, August 4, as nine members of the National Youth Service Corps in the state drowned in River Mayo-Selbe, Gashaka local government area.
The police public relations officer of the state ASP David Missal, confirmed the incident.
Missal stated that the 22 corps members were swimming in River Mayo-Selbe when nine of them drowned. He said that seven corpses had so far been recovered from the scene of the incident.
