EFCC raids ex-DSS DG Ita Ekpeyong’s Abuja residence

Premium Times is reporting that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have raided the residence of Ita Ekpeyong, a former director-general of the Directorate of Security Service (DSS).

According to the report, officers from the EFCC arrived Ekpeyong’s Asokoro residence on Thursday, August 9, in an anti-corruption raid that was reportedly sanctioned by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

Ekpeyong led the DSS between 2010 and 2015 under former President Goodluck Jonathan, before he was shown the way out by President Muhammadu Buhari.

His replacement, Lawal Daura, was recently sacked by Osinbajo.

An attempt was previously made to search the residence in November 2017, but Daura prevented it, sparking a stand-off that nearly turned fatal between DSS and EFCC operatives.

The EFCC accused Ekpeyong of being culpable in the arms purchase scandal that rocked the exit of President Goodluck Jonathan.

There are indications that today’s raid at Ekpeyong’s home, was a continuation of the botched search from last year.

The EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, was not available for comments at the time of this report.

The DSS before now, was said to have been relying on the provisions of a legal instrument approved by the Abdulsalami Abubakar military junta in resisting the arrest of Ekpeyong.

Ekpeyong is alleged to have turned down multiple invitations by EFCC investigators.
