Ronaldo set to return Real Madrid in 2019 to be honored

- Ronaldo is set to return to Real Madrid for a pre-season friendly with Juventus

- The Spanish side will pay tribute to their Portuguese star in an invitational match

- The 33-year-old left Los Blancos for the Serie A side for £100million switch

Real Madrid will invite Cristiano Ronaldo back to the Bernabeu next year so they can pay tribute to one of their all-time greats.

The 33-year-old left Los Blancos for Juventus in a £100million switch last month after nine trophy-laden years in the Spanish capital.

The Portuguese ace's long-time love affair with the club had threatened to turn sour, when relations with president Florentino Perez turned frosty in the summer, after he made his intentions clear on leaving.

Perez and Madrid have decided to plan Ronaldo's ceremonial return to honour his years of service for the club.

The five-time Balon d'Or winner will receive an invitation back to Real for the 2019 edition of the Bernabeu Trophy with Juventus.

In 2013, the pre-season game has traditionally been used to celebrate the return of a former player with club legend Raul gracing the Bernabeu pitch again with Al-Sadd.

Former captain Iker Casillas was also the subject of such an offer in both 2017 and 2018, but FC Porto have been unable to fit in into the fixture because of their hectic pre-season schedule.

Ahead of the 2019 Bernabeu Trophy the club are also planning to make several tributes to other former stars and have placed it at the top of their agenda.

This year's edition will be played against AC Milan on August 11.

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that Real Madrid have slapped a €750m (£670m) price tag on their star midfielder Luka Modric to fend off interest from Inter Milan.

The 32-year-old was named the best player at the World Cup after leading Croatia to the finals as they eventually lost 4-2 to France.
