- Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi was invited for an interview over case of a transaction the police are investigating

Suleiman Hunkuyi, the senator representing Kaduna north at the National Assembly, has been invited by the police over a case they are investigating.

The senator was asked to appear at the force headquarters Abuja on Wednesday, August 8, before one Ibrahim Agu, a deputy superintendent of police.

The letter with reference number AR:300/IGP.SEC/MU/STS/FHQ/ABJ.T.A/VOL.9, was signed by an assistant commissioner of police, Mr Sanusi Mohammed, Punch reports.

The letter stated: “This office is investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, forgery, cheating, obtaining money by false pretence, conspiracy to convert and criminal conversion.”

The news outlet reports further that the invitation was a result of a petition to the inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris, over a N369m transaction involving a parcel of land along Independent Way, Kaduna “covered by Kaduna state Certificate of Occupancy number 16066.”

Adamu Ango, chairman of the Kaduna chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) was also said to have been invited over the same case.

The news outlet also reported that when contacted, Ango, acknowledged the receipt of an invitation by the police headquarters in Abuja.

He however wondered why a purely civil matter would be labelled criminal.

“Our lawyers are in charge. Even if we are going on August 13, we are going with our lawyers.

“It’s political and we (NLC) don’t want to be associated with that. When we entered into an agreement with the Sahel Engineering and Technical Services, for the construction of our secretariat, it was then we discovered that Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi had a link with the company. The NLC should be left out of politics,” he said.

Hunkuyi was one of the 13 All Progressives Congress senators who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party a few weeks ago.
