Giroud and Hazard persuade Fekir to join Chelsea instead of Liverpool

- Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard advise Fekir to join Chelsea instead of Liverpool

- The 25-year-old's move to the Merseyside club collapsed before the World Cup

- Lyon coach Bruno Genesio says Fekir's future is uncertain with the Ligue 1 club

Chelsea stars Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard have been urging Nabil Fekir to join the Blues after snubbing Liverpool.

Fekir had seemed all set to join the Reds for around £50m before the World Cup , only for his transfer from Lyon to dramatically collapse at the last minute.

The France playmaker went on to play in six of Les Bleus seven matches during their World Cup success in the summer.

And Fekir's national team-mate Giroud claims he got straight to work on his fellow countryman at France's training camp.

"I spoke to him when we were with the France team and his transfer to Liverpool was aborted," he told reporters after Chelsea's final pre-season friendly of the summer on Tuesday, when they ironically faced Lyon.

"After that, it was a question about Chelsea. Even Eden had a couple of words with him.

"We'd welcome him, he's a great player and of course we'd welcome him with pleasure. I don't know if it's news but the market finishes on Thursday."

The Blues won the friendly on penalties, and after the match Lyon boss Bruno Genesio admitted he did not know what the future held for Fekir who was not present in the game.

"It’s too early to say," he said.

“He wanted to leave at the end of last season, but came back to training yesterday and was happy.

“Who knows? There may be opportunities that come up before the end of the window. For now, he is a Lyon player.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported Nabil Fekir's move to Liverpool has been the longest rumour in this summer transfer window so far.

According to French media outlet L'Equipe, Lyon would still allow the World Cup winner to leave this summer if a suitable £60million comes in.
