Chief Godwin Afangideh has resigned his position as the deputy chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom state, as well as his membership of the party.
Afangideh's resignation comes in the midst of alleged plan by Senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio's to defect from PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Afangideh's resignation letter was dated August 8, less than 24hours after Akpabio's arrival at Akwa Ibom state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that meanwhile, amidst defection rumour, senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun moves to replace minority leader of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio and regretted not getting rid of him earlier.
A source from PDP said the senators claimed fear of overheating the polity and causing crisis in the PDP made them not to remove him as Minority Leader when they discovered that his commitment started waning.
