Some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers of the House of Representatives were on Tuesday, August 7, seen in the National Assembly (NASS) building having a nice time amidst the siege around the complex carried out by armed operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The DSS had earlier prevented lawmakers from holding their proposed meeting in the NASS chamber, an action that eventually led to the sack of the force's director general, Lawal Daura, as announced by the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, Punch reports.

The lawmakers were said to be enjoying themselves while other Nigerians expressed worries about the lockdown.

Lauretta Onochie, President Muhammadu Buhari's social media aide, has expressed her misgivings concerning the development. Onochie, on her Twitter page, said: "The section of the media who were part of the plot by the PDP & some security agents to stage a Drama at the NASS yesterday, should apologise to Nigerians.

"It has now emerged that while @benmurraybruce played d Publicity Secretary, his friends were drinking whisky INSIDE the NASS."

Moreover, Babafemi Ojudu, special adviser to the president on political matters, aired his views about the activities of the PPD lawmakers in the NASS building.

Ojudu said: “There were photos of the PDP lawmakers, about 30 of them – a mixture of senators and reps – where they sat down at the lobby, drinking whiskey.

“I was asked to go and find out what was happening at the national assembly. I got there at about 11am and I found about 25 or 30 lawmakers of the PDP sitting down at the lobby and I didn’t see anything (regarding the rumoured impeachment plot).

“I spoke to some of the senators yesterday on what the meeting was about and they were concerned and worried about the president’s budget; they were concerned and were asking ‘what do we do?’ If things continue this way, there may be no election next year.”

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported that as the siege on the NASS continues, the clerk of the chamber, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Omolori, had been denied access to the complex.

Omolori arrived the NASS premises at around 10:02am, but was denied entry by the masked DSS personnel who are currently occupying the main gate of the federal legislative building.

The clerk on arrival at the NASS building confronted the deployed DSS operatives on why his staff and others were being denied access to the premises. They replied that they were acting on orders from above.
