Chelsea set to pay Oblak's £89m release clause as Courtois' replacement

- Chelsea make move for Atletico Madrid's number one Jan Oblak

- The Slovenian has an £89million release clause in his contract

- Thibaut Courtois is forcing a move out to join Real Madrid

Chelsea are set to trigger the £89million release clause of Atletico Madrid's shot-stopper Jan Oblak's in order to replace Thibaut Courtois before the start of the season.

The Belgian goalkeeper failed to turn up for training on Monday and has told the club he wants to move to Real Madrid.

This means Chelsea has little or no time to sign a new goalie before the transfer window shuts on Thursday evening.

According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, the Blues are set to raid Courtois' former club for their star man Jan Oblak.

The Slovenian stopper has an £89m release clause on his contract with the Wanda Metropolitano outfit.

However Mundo Deportivo claim that Chelsea are set to cash-in in the next 24 hours as they look to push through the move.

It is understood that the Blues have turned to Oblak after moves for Alisson, Pepe Reina and Jordan Pickford fell through this summer.

Alisson chose Liverpool while Reina opted to remain loyal to AC Milan who have just paid £9m to sign him.

On the other hand, Everton asked for £58m for Pickford, but Chelsea have now opted to spend more to ensure the arrival of one of the world's best goalkeepers.

Oblak's potential arrival to Stamford Bridge would likely ensure Courtois gets his way and secures a move to the Bernabeu.

Courtois spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid after joining Chelsea back in 2011, winning the La Liga and the Europa League, before finishing runners up in the Champions League in 2014.

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has told new manager Maurizio Sarri he wants to leave Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian shot-stopper reportedly met with Sarri after the Blue's Community Shield defeat to Manchester City at Wembley.
