Nigeria's U20 women national team got their 2018 FIFA U20 women's World Cup off to a losing start in France after losing 1-0 to Germany in their opening Group D encounter.

Stefanie Sanders scored the only goal that gave the 2014 champions all three points after normal regulation period. After playing a goalless draw in the first half of the game.

Maren Meinert's ladies settled down quickly in the game as they created a number of chances earlier in the game but the genius of goalkeeper Nnadozie stopped her side from conceding early.

The 2014 silver medal winners at some point got their rhythm as they tried to conjure some passes together but their balls were poor as both sides shared the spoils after 45 minutes.

Both teams returned to the pitch for the remainder of the game and the status quo continued with the European giants mounting so much pressure on their opponents, while Danjuman's ladies were soaking the pressure.

However, Germany got their breakthrough via goal-mouth scrambled goal from a corner kick in the 69th minute -a goal which separated the two sides after the match.

After conceding with 20 minutes to the wrap of the game, Nigeria had a few chances but were denied by the wood works late into the game.

With this defeat, Christopher Danjuma's ladies are at the base of the group table with zero point having failed to salvage a draw for themselves in the game.

Meanwhile, their next group game is against Haiti U20 side on Thursday, August 9th while their last group match is against China next Monday.
