I won’t blame past leaders if elected president - Dankwambo

- Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe state said he will not blame any Nigerian past leaders if he is elected as the country's next president

Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe, Ibrahim Dankwambo, who on Saturday, August 4, declared his intention to contest the 2019 presidential election said he will not blame any Nigerian past leaders if he is elected as the country's next president.

Guardian reports that Dankwambo declared his intent to run for president in next year’s election under the platform of the PDP where he will be contesting the party’s ticket alongside former vice president, Atiku Abubakar and others.

Dankwambo said: “As your president, I will not blame anyone for Nigeria’s problems, I will fix them. Leaders are elected to solve problems.”

Dankwambo said: “After wide consultations with party members and Nigerians of diverse backgrounds.

''I, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo will be running for office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of our great party, the People’s Democratic Party.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that a pro-democracy and advocacy group, MyID2019, declared its support for Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo as Nigeria's president.

According to the group, the performance of the governor has put him in a good position for consideration as president of Nigeria in 2019.

The national coordinator of the group, Justice Nzerem, at a press conference in Abuja, on Saturday, January 20, said Dankwambo has distinguished himself with his leadership qualities.

In a related development, the governor on Saturday August 4 finally said he would be contesting for the highest seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

According to him, “After wide consultations with party members & Nigerians of diverse backgrounds! I, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo will be running for office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of our great party, the People’s Democratic Party. #GoingBeyondPromises.”

He is the fifth aspirant to announce his candidacy in the PDP. Others are former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, who only two weeks went to Gombe to solicit Dankwambo’s support, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna and chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa, Attahiru Bafarawa, former governor of Sokoto and Tanimu Turaki, a former minister of the Jonathan era, who has launched a campaign via billboards.
