Defections: Senator Shehu Sani laments state of Nigerian politics

Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the gale of defections witnessed in Nigeria's political space in the last few weeks from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The senator representing Kaduna central senatorial district, described Nigeria's politics as 'vegetarian.'

He also made reference to the frosty relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government and what it portends for the polity.

“If you defect, they will say it’s because of the juicy carrot from the opposition. If you refuse to defect, they will say it’s because of the juicy cassava from the ruling party. Nigeria’s vegetarian politics.

“Before the defections, the parliament and the executive used to live like North Korea and South Korea; after the defections, the parliament and the executive will live like NATO and Russia,” the senator wrote on his social media pages.

Meanwhile, House of Representatives lawmakers under the aegis of Parliamentary Democrats Group (PDG) on Sunday, August 5, accused Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and chairman of the All Progressives Cingress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, of sponsoring some of their party's senators to cause chaos and instability in the National Assembly.

Briefing journalists in Abuja, PDG spokesman, Timothy Golu (PDP, Plateau), alleged that the senators have been offered huge money by Osinbajo and Oshiomhole.

“These APC senators who were offered huge sums of money by Osinbajo and Oshiomhole, have resolved to clamp down on the lawmakers that recently defected from the APC to the PDP.

“We hereby advise the vice president not to allow himself to be used to desecrate the institution of the National Assembly or to perpetuate any illegality under his watch as the acting president,” Golu said.
