- Jose Mourinho feels his side might be in for a difficult season
- The Portuguese manager says his team lacks enough signings
- Man United lost their final pre-season match to Bayern Munich
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has warned of a “difficult” season should the club fail to bolster their squad within the next three days before the transfer window closes.
The Red Devils ended their pre-season tour with a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich thanks to a second half header from defensive midfielder Javi Martinez.
The Portuguese manager feels the club might not be ready to challenge the big boys in the league because according to him, the squad is still lacking in several key areas.
Speaking on MUTV, the 55-year-old remained adamant the board was fully aware of his concerns with the transfer deadline slated for Thursday, August 9.
"My CEO knows what I want and I still have a few days to wait and see what happens," he said.
It marked the end of a lowly string of friendly games from the club which finished second behind Manchester City last season.
Majority of the pre-season games were played without the likes of key players such as Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard who are winding up their holiday after an intense World Cup campaign.
But Mourinho still feels that despite the comfort of lacking such big names in pre season, the club still needed to invest in at least two more players for the new season if they were to compete with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and a revitalized Arsenal side.
"The other clubs who compete with us are really strong and already have fantastic teams. Or they are investing massively like Liverpool, who are buying everything and everybody,” he went on.
United have made three signings so far Brazil midfielder Fred for £47m, Portuguese defender Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant who will act as the third choice goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Manchester United young goalkeeper Joel Pereira has joined Vitoria Setubal on loan.
Jose Mourinho sanctioned the move as he attempts to allow Pereira get regular game time he needs to continue his development.
