- Senators on the platform of the PDP are reportedly gathering in Abuja to prevent any planned impeachment of Saraki
- The PDP caucus of the Senate are said to be obeying a message to them from the leadership of the party
- Members of the PDP from the House of Representatives recently held a vigil to prevent any move against Saraki and Ekweremadu
As the battle to unseat the president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, allegedly by senators on the platform of the All Progressives Congress thickens, it has been learnt that their colleagues from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have stormed Abuja.
The PDP senators are reportedly in Abuja to stop any of such plan against Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
Daily Sun reports that the PDP senators got a message from the leadership of the party for them to rush down to Abuja.
The report confirmed that some of the senators had returned to Abuja following the message. They would hold some meetings over the weekend to strategise on how to checkmate any planned leadership change.
The report said some of the senators confirmed the message saying they had travelled to their villages ahead of the party’s primaries coming up soon before the message came.
A source also said some of the members who travelled out of the country are expected to return before the weekend.
It was learnt that the PDP members in the House of Representatives are currently meeting to strategise on how to counter any alleged plot against the leadership of both chambers.
The report said PDP members of the House of Representatives spent the entire night in the National Assembly to forestall any plan by senators loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari against the leadership of both chambers.
Chukwuka Onyema, the deputy minority leader in the House, revealed that they got information that APC senators had planned to invade the Senate chamber to sit ‘illegally’ and impeach the president of the Senate.
Led by Onyema, the PDP members in the House assembled in front of the Senate chamber and remained there throughout the night.

Clifford Ordia, a senator from Edo state, also warned against any plan to reopen the Senate chamber behind Saraki saying this would be resisted.
“Saraki cannot be impeached. Those planning to remove him through the back door will fail. We will not allow it to happen. They have no right to reopen the National Assembly and they know it,” he said.
