I have not defected from APC - Kano deputy governor

- The deputy governor of Kano state, Hafiz Abubakar, has denied defecting from the APC to the PDP

- He said he would take a decision on his political future at an appropriate time, after due consultation with his political leaders

- The PDP had previously released a tweet welcoming Abubakar to the opposition party

Prof Hafiz Abubakar, the deputy governor of Kano state, has denied reports that he had defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He made the comment in a chat with newsmen on Wednesday night, August 1, The Nation reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Abubakar also stressed that he is still the Kano state deputy governor.

He said: “I have not resigned; I am still the deputy governor of Kano state. I am currently in Abuja attending an official function; that is the National Council of Education meeting. I will take decision on my political future at an appropriate time after due consultation with my political leaders.”

Abubakar, who is an ally of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and has been at loggerheads with the Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, over his alliance with Kwankwaso, accused “some agents” of the state government of spreading the rumour.

The PDP had previously released a tweet welcoming the deputy governor and the governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal, to the party.

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that the Kano state deputy governor, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, had defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party.

The development was made public by journalist, Sumner Shagari Sambo, via his Twitter handle, @Sumner_Sambo, on Wednesday, August 1.
