Pupil who was seen on dangerous motorbike ride receives help from good Samaritan

- A primary school pupil caused massive outrage on social media after photos of her on a dangerous motorbike ride surfaced online

- While many people condemned the act which they termed suicidal, it appears the deed has gotten her favours

- An NGO has since reached out to the girl and her family with food supplies and shoes for the young girl

To motorbike riders, nothing is impossible, no road is impassable, no luggage is too big to haul, no number of passengers is too much to ferry and no rule or road regulation is too tough to break. It is while indulging this act as an unusual passenger that Faith Jepchirchir made the news headlines.

The 13-year-old had become quite the topic of discussion on the internet after photos of herself riding loosely and dangerously hanging on a bundle of firewood tied on a motorbike headed down the steep Kerio Valley, surfaced online.

When the photos surfaced on the internet, it caused a media outrage as the rider who was without a helmet, was pictured looking unfazed with the risk he was exposing the passenger and himself on the smooth Cheptongei-Kapsowar road in Elgeyo Marakwet county.

Well, while many people were outraged by the incident, it appears Faith's life is about to change for the better. Thanks to a Nairobi-based NGO known as Soles for African Child, Faith Jepchirchir can now afford to walk in shoe, which was one among the many things she lacked.

When the story was reported by Standard Media, many people called in with offers to support Jepchirchir's upkeep and education which seemed to be dependent on her ageing grandmother’s little earnings from selling firewood.

Soles for African Child traced Jepchirchir to Chelles Primary School in Kapsowar Township and offered its help.

The team said it was touched by Jepchirchir’s remarks in our story. She had vowed to buy a Sh100 pair of shoes from her first salary as a medical doctor, a career she wants to pursue.

Her grandmother and Jepchirchir’s headteacher Salina Mumol described her as a very hardworking, kind and focused girl.

Jepchirchir broke down in tears of joy as she could not believe how the motorbike ride could have brought her such favours. “I am grateful and may God bless you. I promise to work hard and make you and my grandmother proud,” she said.
