Rivers state is facing the worst harassment from FG - Wike alleges

- Rivers has been rated the most harassed state by the federal government, according to a recent allegation made by Governor Nyesom Wike

- Wike said that the ongoing massive defection from the ruling party, APC, to the opposition, PDP, will continue

- He further said that the remaining members of the APC are afraid of the EFCC, hence their hesitation to defect

Governor Nyesom Wike on Wednesday, August 1, ranked Rivers state “as one of the states facing the worst form of harassment” from the All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration, Vanguard reports.

Celebrating Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s defection from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike resolved never to be laid back by alleged intimidation from the federal government.

Wike said: “I am ready to be part of history, to be part of positive change in the country in 2019. Some governors who cannot win elections, based on their performance, are merely hanging on because they believe if Buhari runs, they will win.

“Those left in APC are afraid of intimidation by the EFCC. Some people are lily-livered, so they cannot come out.” He further stated that nationwide defection among politicians from the APC to the PDP will not stop.

He stated: “Democracy is under threat in Nigeria. Nobody obeys court judgments. Nobody obeys the rule of law. If you say anything, they come after you. That is not democracy.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the APC in Rivers state, in a statement by the state chairman, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, had accused Wike of inducing the party's lawmakers with N2.3 billion to defect to the PDP.

Flag-Amachree, in a statement on Sunday, July 29, said the alleged N3.2 billion bribe given to the federal lawmakers who defected was a proof of the reckless spending by the state administration.

He said: “The reckless spending by Nyesom Wike is getting out of hand. Just two weeks ago, he spent N3.2bn to bribe House of Reps and Senate members to defect. That is how our money is being spent."
