Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has returned for pre-season training a day late but declared that he will be staying with the Serie A side.

The Serbian international has been linked with a big-money move away from the Stadio Olimpico this summer after a standout season last campaign.

The 23-year-old emerged as a shining light in Simone Inzaghi's side, after netting 14 goals last season.

Milinkovic-Savic being was tipped to join one of European football's elite including Manchester United, Real Madrid and Chelsea.

After a stellar World Cup with Serbia, the speculation surrounding his future as the six-foot-plus failed to return to his club for pre-season on Monday.

But Milinkovic-Savic did return on Tuesday morning to the Clinica Paideia for medical tests, and told fans that he would be staying with the Biancocelesti.

Milinkovic-Savic reportedly responded when asked by fans if he would be staying: "Of course I'm staying, do you not see that I'm here?"

Maurizio Sarri had emerged as a frontrunner for Milinkovic-Savic's signature but Lazio boss Inzaghi stated he saw no reason to be alarmed over the player's future and is eyeing a challenge for a Champions League place in Serie A in 2018-19.

"I spoke with Sergej, he wanted to arrive two days earlier in Auronzo, but I gave him two more days of holiday. I feel calm.

"Anything could happen. Our desire is to do well as in the last years, we will fight with everyone."

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that Chelsea Chelsea have opened talks for summer a possible move for Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino.

The Blues have signed only two players this summer and will be looking to bolster Maurizio Sarri’s squad with a number of new additions before the window closes.
