What was said by the High Court and the Senate on post UTME in Nigeria?

Everything started with the news that the Federal High Court has reviewed the case with post-UTME screening exercises in Nigeria and has come to a conclusion that these tests or examinations were illegal in compliance with the Nigerian law. The news spread with the speed some time around March 2018.

The screening has been conducted by all existing Nigerian tertiary educational facilities such as colleges, universities, and polytechnics. However, post-UTME screening was reported to be banned by the decision of the Court. In the course of the process, it was said that only JAMB was allowed to conduct any possible matriculation exams and decide on admission to tertiary educational facilities.

Post UTME screening being called illegal has caused many students to think that they would never ever have to pass any screening after they complete their UTME. Of course, everybody was waiting for the post-UTME screening to be cancelled in 2018. However, how has it turned out to be in reality?

Nope, there’s still none. The 2018/2019 post UTME screening forms and requirements for all categories of prospective students are being released by tertiary educational facilities as normal.

It means the screening will definitely be NOT banned this year. Let’s see how the situation will unfold further on but for now, admission into universities, colleges and polytechnics in Nigeria is going as always in 2018.
