Manchester City have confirmed that new signing Riyad Mahrez will be resuming training ahead of their Community Shield date with Chelsea after clarifying that £60m -rated star injury was not as serious as initially feared.

The 27-year-old Algeria international was taken out after 28th minute for Bernardo Silva at the Hard Rock Stadium, during the Citizens 3-2 win over Bayern Munich.

And despite returning to the UK on crutches, the Citizens have quickly doused any tension over their record signing after claiming his availability to face Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday.

"Riyad Mahrez has been given the all-clear to return to training later this week after picking up an ankle knock," read a statement on the club's official website.

"City’s new signing was withdrawn from the action after being fouled by Bayern Munich’s Chris Richards during the first half of Saturday’s 3-2 win over Bayern Munich.

"Subsequent pictures emerged showing Mahrez wearing a protective boot on his left foot upon his return to Manchester.

"However, a scan today has revealed no significant damage, and he could be available for selection for this weekend’s Community Shield against Chelsea."

The Citizens square up against the Blues on Sunday at Wembley in the traditional curtain raiser, with Arsenal away a week later to commence their Premier League title defence.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported that Riyad Mahrez is doubtful for the start of the Premier League season after picking an ankle injury in his side's 3-2 win over Bayern Munich in a preseason friendly.

The Algerian star, who joined the Citizens in a five year deal valued at £60 million from Leicester was forced out of the game after picking up the injury. Although, nobody from the camp of City has revealed how long the attacker will be out of action, he was sighted on crutches and a protective boot.
