Breaking: Okorocha places N20m bounty on killers of Imo APC chieftain

- Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has promised to give N20m to anybody who has useful information on the killers of APC chairman in the state

- Sunny Ejiagwu, the APC chairman in Ideato north local government area, was reportedly killed by suspected gunmen on Friday, July 27

- The Imo state police command, Andrew Enwerem, said the police have launched an investigation into the killing

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has promised a reward of N20 million to anyone with useful information on the killers of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Vanguard reports that the governor made the pledge on Friday, July 27, hours after Sunny Ejiagwu, the APC chairman in Ideato north local government area, was killed by gunmen suspected to be hired assassins.

Legit.ng gathered that Ejiagwu was murdered, four days after he was elected the APC chairman in the LGA, along the Orlu-Akokwa road on his way home after attending a meeting at the APC secretariat in Owerri, the state capital.

The spokesperson for the Imo state police command, Andrew Enwerem, said the police have launched an investigation into the killing.

Meanwhile, the Imo state APC chairman, Daniel Nwafor, has condemned the killing, describing it as unfortunate and unwarranted.

Nwafor told reporters at the state party’s secretariat that the murder was capable of causing political chaos in the state.

He called on the security agencies to urgently launch a manhunt for the perpetrators of the act.

He recalled that the deceased had raised fears over his safety on Thursday, July 26, during one of their meetings, decrying the volatile nature of his local government.

Nwafor, however, called on party supporters in the state to remain calm as the security agencies work to ensure the perpetrators were brought to justice.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that some unknown gunmen killed another politician , Amos Akano, a chieftain of the Imo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who hailed from Nkwerre local government area.
