Abubakar Hashidu, a former governor of Gombe state, has reportedly died at the age of 74.
A family member of the deceased told Premium Times that the ex-governor died on Friday morning, July 27, at his home in Gombe after suffering Alzheimers disease for some years.
A family friend who also confirmed the death of the ex-governor said he would be buried by 5pm on Friday evening.
Hashidu governed Gombe state from May 1999 to May 2003 on the platform of then All Peoples Party (APP).
The deceased once served as a minister of water resources as well a minister of agriculture and rural development during the military regime of Ibrahim Babangida. He was also appointed by Sani Abacha as a member of the vision 2010 committee set up by late head of state.

It was alleged that the Kogi senator was kidnapped on Thursday, July 26, on his way to Kogi state for his court case.
However, the senator in a tweet on Friday, July 27, claimed he had just escaped the abduction. He said he spent 11 hours in the wilderness and thanked Nigerians for their prayers and show of love that kept him safe.
The senator also thanked God for his escape from yet "another dangerous attack". According to him, it was that God preserved him.
