APC nominates Ahmed Babba-Kaita for Katsina senatorial bye-election

- Ahmed Babba-Kaita scores 1,723 votes to become the APC candidate for the Katsina by election

- INEC will conduct the bye-election on August 1, following the death of Senator Mustafa Bukar who represented the zone

- Fayemi accuses INEC of giving PDP election materials

Ahmed Babba-Kaita has emerged as the winner of the All Progressive Congress (APC) primary election for the Katsina north senatorial district bye election.

Obaha Agbon, the returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that Kaita polled 1,723 votes against Nasiru Sani- Zango who got 1,474 votes. He said the election was keenly contested but was held in a peaceful atmosphere, PM News reports.

The state APC chairman, Shitu Masalaha, commended the voter turnout. He said the party will continue to promote internal democracy in its activities.

INEC will conduct a bye election to fill the vacancy on August 1, following the death of Senator Mustafa Bukar who represented the zone.

Meanwhile, the governor-elect of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi, has raised allegation against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of granting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawyers access to electoral documents.

The Sun reports that Tajudeen Akingbolu who is a member Fayemi’s legal team said they were not granted access to the Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the electoral documents even after formally writing to INEC.

The lawyers wondered why the electoral body would grant PDP access to the materials without first notifying the other parties.
