Arsenal new boss Unai Emery is backing the club’s playmaker Mesut Ozil over his recent decision to retire from Germany’s national team, according to a UK Metro report.

In a long statement, the midfielder lashed out at DFB boss Reinhard Grindel and cited ‘racism and disrespect’ as his main reason for quitting the German national side, Die Mannschaft.

Presently, Ozil is with Arsenal in Singapore for their pre-season training and the Gunners manager insists the club is supporting the playmaker’s decision to step aside.

“All of us want to help Mesut feel like it is his home here with us, like a family and it is a family for every player,” said Emery.

“He feels here with us that he can work every day, and it is good for us that he decided to come here and work with us before our two matches.

“I am very happy with him, every player is looking together and Mesut has the respect of every player here.

“It is a personal decision from Mesut and I respect it,” the former PSG manager summed-up.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported that the agent of Mesut Ozil has fired back at Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness for unleashing a personal attack on Arsenal midfielder following his retirement from Germany national team, according to a UK Sun report.

The Gunners playmaker penned an emotional letter declaring his decision to quit Die Mannschaft after a poor outing at the just concluded FIFA World Cup in Russia.
