- Kayode Fayemi met with Adams Oshiomhole in Abuja after the defection of some National Assembly members
- Fayemi, a governor-elect of Ekiti, believes President Muhammadu Buhari will still win in 2019 despite the defection
- The former minister also reveals why he visited Oshiomhole in Abuja
Kayode Fayemi, the governor-elect of Ekiti state, has said despite the mass defection that hit the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole will lead Muhammadu Buhari to victory in 2019.
Daily Trust reports that Fayemi stated this when he visited Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the APC in Abuja, saying the party would record the same feats in the coming poll in Osun state like it did in Ekiti.

According to Fayemi, the defection of some members of the National Assembly is simply democracy in action.
“Whether he is chairman of party, president of labour congress or state governor, he has demonstrated his leadership capacity without doubt.
“He is clearly a man for the job.
“He has been delivering to the best of his ability and that is why he got the first victory in Ekiti state with another one on the way in Osun state before we cap it up with total success in February 16, 2019.
“What the defection signifies to the party is that it is democracy in action. It does not portend any danger to our party. Democracy is not an event, it is a process.
“It is wrong to take an isolated event and come to a conclusion about an issue. As one door shuts, some other doors will open. I urge you to stay tuned,” he said.
On the reason he visited the APC national headquarters, Fayemi said: “My mission at the secretariat is that I am on a courtesy visit. I am always here to see my leaders and I come here often even as minister.
“I am an active party member and founding member at that.

“There is no reason I should shy away from coming here. This may be the first time I am visiting the secretariat since the emergence of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the national chairman of this party, but I am a regular visitor to the party secretariat.”
Legit.ng earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his total commitment to the values of democracy, freedom of choice as well as total willingness to work with all members of the National Assembly, irrespective of their political party, for the benefit of the nation.
The president’s statement is in response to the mass defection of some All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, July 24.
