- The House members' defection followed a similar action by 15 Senators at the upper chamber earlier
Barely two hours after 15 senators of the eight Senate dumped the ruling All progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party, 36 House of Representatives members have done the same.
Thirty-two lawmakers at the lower chamber joined the PDP while four others joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The defection of the lawmakers was announced at the plenary on Tuesday, July 24, by the speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
The defectors cited division at all levels of the ruling party as the reason for their defection.
The lawmakers who defected include: Sani Rano, Barry Mpigi, Ali madaki, Dickson Tackighir, Hassan Saleh, Danburam Nuhu, Mark Gbilah, Razak Atunwa, Ahmed Garba Bichi, Abdulsamad Dasuki and Zakari Mohammed.
Dogara and his deputy, Yusuf Lasun were not named among the defectors.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that 15 senators of the eight Senate dumped the ruling APC.
The senators, including Dino Melaye, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Abdul-Azeez Nyako, announced their defection at the Senate plenary on Tuesday, July 24.
The list containing the senators' names was handed over to Bukola Saraki, the president of the Senate, who managed to get to the plenary after a reported blockade in the morning.
