Senator Yayi raises petition against Banire's appointment as AMCON chair

- Senator Solomon Adeola has petitioned the Senate president over the appointment of Muiz Banire as a new chairman for AMCON

- Adeola also presented the signature of three other senators in support of his petition

The senator representing Lagos West senatorial district, Solomon Adeola, on Tuesday, July 24, petitioned the Senate over the appointment of Muiz Banire as the chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

Adeola's petition against Banire who is also from his constituency was read on the floor of the Senate's plenary on Tuesday, July 24.

Enclosed in the petition are signatures from three senators from Lagos state who are also against the nomination.

Receiving Adeola's petition, the Senate president Bukola Saraki referred it to the committee on ethics, privileges and public petition.

The committee according to the Senate president is expected to report back to the Senate in two weeks from Tuesday, July 24.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Banire was appointed the chairman of the governing board of AMCON by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The appointment by President Buhari was announced by Saraki on Tuesday, July 17, at the Senate. Saraki said while reading President Buhari’s letters to the lawmakers said he sought the approval of the chamber.

Before his appointment, Banire was the legal adviser to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
