Breaking: 13 PDP governorship aspirants reject Ortom

Thirteen governorship aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for 2019 elections in Benue state on Monday, July 23, kicked against the imminent return of Governor Samuel Ortom to the party.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the aspirants said while they were not against the return of defectors; they were against people with negative values even as they described Ortom as a liability.

John Tondu, one of the aspirants said: “The governor of Benue state today is a liability, not an asset. He’s not welcome.”

Meanwhile, had reported Governor Samuel Ortom shelved his decision to leave his ruling APC, following a closed-door meeting he had with the national chairman of the party, Comrades Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday, July 19, in Abuja.

While speaking with journalists at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja, Ortom said the party leadership had assured him that no individual in Benue state can push him out of the party. The governor said that he is still a member of the APC.

In related development, Governor Samuel Ortom disclosed that he had been sent out of his present political party, APC and is currently exploring a new option to actualise his future ambition.

Terver Akase, chief press secretary to Governor Ortom stated this at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi while swearing in his special adviser on local government and chieftain affairs, Jerome Torshimbe.

He noted that he was consulting with relevant stakeholders, stressing that he would soon make his next move known to Benue people.

Governor Ortom charged the new appointee to justify the confidence reposed in him through hard-work and commitment to duty and to imbibe the core values of his administration which include transparency, accountability, justice and equity.
