Edo clerics oppose ceding of state’s land for cattle grazing

The Word-Based Bishops and Apostles Peculiar Global Association Incorporated, based in Benin-City, Edo state has opposed the proposed ceding of land to herdsmen for cattle grazing.

The clerics made their position known in a communiqué issued by Bishop Solomon Akhigbe, Bishop Osadolor Ochei, Rev A. O. Ehigie and 10 others, over the weekend in Benin-City, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the ministers opined that the proposal would create untold hardship and oppression to communities in the state; and urged Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Oba of Benin Omo N’Oba Ewuare II, to ensure the protection of all ancestral land of Edo people.

They also charged the Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government to take immediate steps to put an end to the persistent killings of innocent Nigerians by suspected herdsmen.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, met with the national leaders of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and heads of security agencies in the state at the Government House in Benin City.

Obaseki, at the meeting, said his administration would do everything within its power to ensure qulaity security in the state and ensure peaceful co-existence between the herdsmen and farmers in Edo.
