Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has lauded the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS); saying that its operatives are doing a wonderful job.
According to reports, he made the comment during a chat with newsmen.
Legit.ng gathers that the Police chief was responding to a question about what plans he had to restructure SARS, as many Nigerians have been clamouring for the squad to be scrapped.
He responded: “You see, you have to be careful about this ‘clamouring. You know, I remember, social media is a technology available to those that are criminally minded; and we have to be careful to the way we respond to some of these ‘clamouring’ that you’re saying.
“SARS is a unit of the Police that I believe is to be sustained; but what we are doing is ensure that they are properly trained and that is why we are providing facilities for them to make work easier for them.
“And I have to tell you that they are doing a very wonderful job.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that an independent audit of detention cells of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad nationwide, was approved by Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris.
The development followed a call for such action by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC.
In a bid to “oversee human rights situation of detainees,” the Commission had requested access to cells in all Police commands and formations in the country.
