Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has urged his star midfielder Paul Pogba to bring his 'A' game back to the club ahead of the coming season.

The 25-year-old played a key role in helping France win their second ever World Cup title in France after beating Croatia on Sunday, July 15.

Mourinho, having watched his player performed at the recently concluded championship described his performances at the latter stages of the competition as "brilliant".

The Portuguese manager brought the Frenchman back to Old Trafford in 2016 in a deal valued at £89 million but wasn't impressed with him all through 2017-18 season.

The former Chelsea manager said: "To win the World Cup can only be a positive thing, it is difficult to say that is not good for a player's career, it's amazing, it's fantastic. The Sun report.

"So many players don’t have the opportunity to win a World Cup and help their team. I hope he understands why he was very good.

"That's the point about his performance level and contribution to a winning team, it is to understand why he was so good especially in the second part of the competition, in the semi-finals and final when he was absolutely brilliant."

Mourinho further stated that Pogba is one of the few France players that rule European football and World scene.

He said: "Apart from Giroud and Lloris, they are all young, they have more Euros and World Cups to play together so the future for him amongst that fantastic group of players can only be brilliant."

On the World Cup winning manager, the Man United boss praised Didier Deschamps who he defeated in a Champions League final when he was manager of Porto against Monaco.

He said: "For Didier I’m really happy. I know the hurt to lose a final.

"I can imagine the hurt to lose a Champions League final or a European championship final, he lost both.

"But now you're a world champion with your country and you can forget all the painful moments in your career.

The North London club announced that the Frenchman will step down at the end of the season after 22 years in charge. Mourinho and Wenger have always to been at logger-heads with each other since the Portuguese arrived in the Premier League in 2004.
