- Premier League side Arsenal have signed Barcelona academy youngster Joel Lopez
- The defender confirmed the switch on his Instagram handle after refusing to sign new deal with the Spanish side
- He will sign a professional contract with the Emirates Stadium outfit once he clocks 17 in a few months
Barcelona youngster Joel Lopez has joined Premier League campaigners Arsenal this summer.
The 16-year-old refused to commit his future to the Catalan club side to become the latest product of the La Masia academy to join the Gunners.
According to the Sun, the Spanish League champions gave everything to keep their future star at the club but the Argentine youngster has already agreed a scholarship deal with the EPL club and will sign a professional contract when he turns 17.
He said on Instagram: "The day has come to say goodbye to what has been my home these last 7 years.
"Thanks to Barcelona, it will be the club that I always carry in my heart for wonderful moments that I have lived with my friends, coaches, delegates, and executives.
"Magnificent people who have made me feel welcome from the first day.
"It was a difficult decision but after contemplating it with my family I made the decision to go and start a new stage as a footballer with great enthusiasm.
"Thanks to all who have been there always Visca Barca!"

The Argentine youngster is the latest of La Masia products to move from the Catalan club to Arsenal as a teenager, following the departures of Cesc Fabregas, Jon Toral and Hector Bellerin.
Sam Greenwood has also moved to the Emirates from Sunderland and will join Lopez as part of the academy led by Per Mertesacker and will link up with the Under-18s squad.

Legit.ng previously reported that Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in signing Germany international Max Meyer this summer.
The 22-year-old midfielder became a free agent after his contract with German League side FC Schalke 04 ran out at the end of last month.
And since the Bundesliga refused to renew his deal at the club, he became clubless and the two EPL clubs are said to be monitoring his situation according to the Sun.
