Breaking: Nigeria's national carrier name and logo unveiled in London

Nigeria's minister of state for aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Wednesday, July 17, unveiled the name and logo of the nation's new national carrier, Nigeria Air. gathered that Sirika speaking in London at the ongoing Farnborough International Airshow, said: "This will be a national carrier that is private sector led and driven.

"It is a business, not a social service. Government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it. The investors will have full responsibility for this."

He added that the government will not own more than five percent of the airline.

"We want to use this new private-sector-led airline to make a statement that, ‘Yes, Nigeria can do it!’ and we also want to promote our cultures and traditions. It will also create economic opportunities and jobs," Sirika said.

The airline is set to commence operations in December 2018.

Spend less on the Internet! previously reported that the federal government, through the help of the Qatar Air and Ethiopian Airlines Enterprise, the biggest airline in the African continent, are making moves to get a new national carrier; the plans were announced by Tewolde GebreMariam, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ethiopian aviation firm.

Speaking in London, Tewolde said that he expected to face competition over the Nigerian project from Qatar Airways, which has stakes in carriers, including British Airways owner, IAG SA, and Latam Airlines Group SA, the biggest South American operator. Qatar CEO, Akbar Al Baker, in London for the same Skytrax World Airline Awards event, told Bloomberg separately that was not the case.
