On Saturday, July 14, Ekiti was agog with the governorship election which took place at various local government areas in the state.

Following the exercise, a former minister of solid minerals and development, Kayode Fayemi, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged winner of the election ahead of his Peoples Democratic Party counterpart, Kolapo Olusola.

Fayemi garnered 197,459 votes while Olusola polled 178,114 votes.

However, in order to ensure protection of residents of the state and voters, adequate security measures were put in place by both the federal and the state government.

The troops were captured driving around major cities in the state in military vans.

Legit.ng gathered that the troops will remain in the state until peace and total security is guaranteed in Ekiti.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the new governor-elect for Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi, had promised to clear the backlog of salaries owed state workers by the present governor, Ayodele Fayose.

Fayemi said the salary arrears would be paid within six months of his assuming office.

The governor-elect also promised to introduce free education in the state as well as double the present administration's eight-point agenda.
