Ekiti poll: Despite rumours of riot, crisis voters turned out to voice their wishes - Observer group

Following the hard-fought victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the recent Ekiti governorship polls, in the person of John Kayode Fayemi, an observer group known as the Alliance for Credible Elections (ACE), has commended the people of the state for their conduct during the election.

An official of the Alliance for Credible Elections (ACE) Omilusi Mike, on Sunday, July 15, commended the massive turnout of voters for Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti and the transparency of the electoral process.

Omilusi gave the commendation in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti. He said: "I want to sincerely commend the turnout of the people from across the nooks and crannies of Ekiti to vote for their chosen candidate.

"The determination displayed by the people on Saturday, July 14, was unprecedented and unbelievable. I saw the number of people coming out from their villages and homes, contrary to the rumour of riot and crisis being spread across the state a few days to the election. It is obvious that the wishes of the people have prevailed especially at a critical period in Ekiti.”

Former minister of mines and solid minerals development and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kayode Fayemi, was declared winner of the election after securing 197,459 votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate and current deputy governor, Kolapo Olusola, scored 178,121 votes.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Fayemi of the All Progressives Democratic Party (APC) had won the Ekiti state gubernatorial election. The former minister and governor defeats Professor Olusola Eleka, the current deputy governor of Ekiti state and the anointed candidate of Governor Ayodele Fayose.

From the results of the 16 local government areas in the state, Fayemi defeated Kolapo Olusola in 12 LGAs.
