- Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra state has denied reports that he will be running alongside Atiku Abubakar in 2019
- He described the reports as mischievous and mere speculation

A former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, has warned the public that he is not a running mate to ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar in the forthcoming 2019 presidential election.
Obi, a two-time governor of Anambra state has described reports that he is vying for the position of a vice president with Atiku under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as mere speculation.
In a press statement signed by Obi's special adviser on media, Val Obienyem, the former governor said the report is mischievous.
He said: “When I read the story in the papers and on social media, knowing full well that no presidential candidate has discussed such issue with him (Obi), I exclaimed and said ‘Who is the author of this mischief?'
“I immediately brought the news to the attention of my boss who is rounding off his engagements in the UK and the USA. He was equally surprised that such speculation should be on at this time when the pre-occupation of all Nigerians should be how to end the killings in parts of the country and return the country back to sanity."
He further said that the PDP is currently preoccupied with the rebranding of the party to produce a formidable presidential standard bearer and not who will be running mate.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Atiku met with former president Goodluck Jonathan in Bayelsa state.

The duo allegedly met to consider offers made to him by a section of the leadership of the opposition party to return.
This meeting between Atiku and Jonathan followed reports that some PDP chieftains are making efforts to bring the former vice president back to the party’s fold but that he gave them conditions which include being given automatic ticket to contest the 2019 presidential election.
