On the evening of June 24th, the 18th BET Awards 2018 was held in Los Angeles. The event was held live at the Microsoft Theater. Jamie Foxx was the host of this year's BET Awards.
That evening, the Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA awards winner Jamie Fox announced Black Panther as the Best Movie of the year. Besides, Beyonce and Bruno Mars won Best R & B/Pop Artists.
BET Awards 2018: how the ceremony went
The BET Awards was created by the Black Entertainment Television (BET) cable TV channel in 2001 for achievements in the field of entertainment. This year, the event organizers entrusted the famous actor, Oscar winner and singer Jamie Foxx to lead the ceremony. He became famous with his roles in the films Django Unchained, Ray, and others.
Jamie Foxx joked and cheered all the evening, made his own improvisations, which were not in the script. He was very good at keeping the audience, so the show BET Awards 2018 was quite active and full.
Marvel blockbuster, Black Panther won the Best Movie Award. In addition, Chadwick Boseman won the award for best male actor in a leading role
The film directed by Ryan Coogler at the beginning of the year became a real phenomenon in Hollywwod, as it carries a strong anti-racist appeal, which has found a lively response in the hearts of American viewers.
Later, Jamie Fox invited Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino, the artiste who recently released a video for his song ‘This is America.’ The song has got almost 300 million views. The audience didn’t expect to see Glover in the hall, so it was a pleasant surprise.
In the new ‘This is America’ video, Gambino also raises relevant questions about the right to bear arms, the police’s prejudiced attitude towards African Americans and American media reaction to crimes committed against the black population.
During the evening, Nicki Minaj, Jay Cole, Snoop Dogg, Janelle Monae, and Migos perfomed on stage.
BET Awards 2018 winners list
In 2018, the BET Awards didn’t have a special star cast of singers such as Cardi B, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, and Yolanda Adams. Legendary soul singer, Anita Baker was also honoured and given the Lifetime achievement award.
Anita Baker, who started her musical career back in the 70s, received an award for her contribution and outstanding achievements. When the singer came on stage, the hall met her with a storm of applause.

Bruno Mars and Beyonce were the best in the nominations Best Male R&B/Pop Artist Award and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist Award. Migos got Best Group Award.
But Cardi B won the award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist.
Kendrick Lamar, who was nominated for five awards, eventually received only two: Album of the Year Award and Best Male Hip-Hop Artist Award.
The ‘Girls Trip’ star Tiffany Haddish won Best Actress for leading role in film.
DJ Khaled, who won Best Collaboration Award for ‘Wild Thoughts’ with Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, went on stage with his son, emphasizing that the future lies in the hands of the young.
Traditionally, only one person gets BET Humanitarian Award. But this year the organizers gave the award to six nominees at once. Thus, ‘Humanitarian heroes’ in 2018 are:
- James Shaw, Jr. (in April the guy fought a man with an assault rifle in Tennessee Waffle House)
- Anthony Borges (the 15-year-old student who saved the lives of at least 20 other students during the February massacre in Florida);
- Mahmud Gassam (last month, he saved a child hanging from a balcony in Paris);
- Naomi Wadler (11-year-old student, who reminded us of an unforgettable and influential speech for "Our Lives" in March);
- Justin Blackman
- Shaun King, a journalist, and activist.
Drake with his ‘God’s Plan’ won Video of the Year Award, the Video Director of the Year was Ava Duvernay, and the Best New Artist - SZA. Yara Shahidi won Young Stars Award among other young musicians.
According to the BET, Serena Williams and LeBron James were recognized as The Best Sportsmen of the year. Besides, Cardi B with her composition ‘Bodak Yellow’ was the choice of Coca-Cola viewers.
Mary J. Blige won an award for ‘Strength of a Woman’ and Lecrae feat. Tori Kelly with ‘I’ll Find You’ won Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award.
And now - the drum roll: Nigerian musician Davido won The Best International Act Award. congratulations!
