Breaking: Troubled Plateau gets new police commissioner

The Plateau state police spokesperson, Terna Tyopev on Tuesday, June 26, confirmed the deployment of Bala Ciroma as a new commissioner of police of the state where over 80 people were killed in a violence linked to herdsmen.

Premium Times reports that Ciroma took over from Undie Adie, who has been directed to report to the force headquarters in Abuja immediately.

Tyopev said handing over formalities by the two commissioners of police have taken place at the command’s headquarters in Jos.

Tyopev said: “Today 26th June, 2018, a new commissioner of police CP Bala Cioma has assumed duty as the commissioner of police, Plateau state command.”

The police and the air force, on Monday, June 25, announced the deployment of more personnel and aircraft to the state to prevent further violence.

Meanwhile, had reported that the Nigerian Air Force deployed an Mi-35P combat helicopter and an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft to Plateau saying this is in support of efforts aimed at quelling the crisis that recently erupted in the state and restoring normalcy.

A short statement by director of public relations and information of the security body, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya said: “The deployment of the ISR aircraft is expected to enhance intelligence gathering while the combat helicopter would conduct armed reconnaissance and other combat air support operations in close coordination with surface forces deployed to the state.

“Meanwhile, other NAF air assets are available at nearby alternate airfields to hasten the process of restoring normalcy in the state, as might be necessary.
